by COMMON on Jan.03, 2010, under NEWS
BET unveiled the chart of the best music videos of the year, and even though their 106&Park show didn’t give it the exposure it should’ve had, Viacom gives it a fair credit by charting it at #23, topping other major hit singles of the year such as Mariah Carey’s “Obsessed”, Beyonce’s “Ego”/”Video Phone”, Pleasure P “Boyfriend #2″, Flo Rida “Right Round”, etc…

LETOYA’S LADY LOVE OFFICIALLY PASSES THE 100,000 SOLD MARK THIS WEEK
by COMMON on Dec.14, 2009, under FEATURED, NEWS

Whohooo! LeToya’s “Lady Love” just passed the 100,000 mark with Lady Love! (103,003 to be exact) You might say it’s not that good but it’s not bad at all if you take in consideration the slow start at 33,000. Usually if you sell that low, your album just disappear and you get stuck with that low number. LeToya managed to sell steadily for the past few months thanks to the hit “Regret” (which if it had been first single, the story would be so much different). Still a lot of people don’t even know the album is already out. I’m sure a few national television shows would’ve helped to boost that number. Can we get a 106 & Park performance of “Regret” BET?!!
Below is the official numbers from soundscan for the Hip-hop and R&B albums sales of 2009 (so far, the year is not over) and it’s not looking good at all for ANYONE. If it continues this way, the music industry will be dead sooner then what we all think. I suggest all these artists to look for a plan B for their income and keep music as a hobby. I can see Mc Donalds being overstaffed next year around this time. Seriously it’s time people PAY for their music.
By the way it’s funny how for Billboard, if you’re black then you are “Hip-Hop-R&B”. Rihanna, Seal and Akon shouldn’t be on that list. Also a lot of these albums have been released in 2008 but are listed here since they have been selling during this year.
I also think Billboard should change their requirements when it comes to their certifications. Platinum and Gold from 5 years ago ain’t the same today. In term of percentage of people who’s getting recognition, if we want to keep it decent, it should be 500,000 for Platinum and 100,000 for Gold. (and maybe 4 million for Diamond). They should also introduce plastic and aluminum.

“REGRET” #6 AOL’S BEST R&B SONGS OF 2009
by thisisme on Dec.08, 2009, under MISC.

AOL’s radio listeners voted “Regret” #6 Top R&B songs of the Year. Congrats LeToya!
Featuring Ludacris, this top R&B song is about the aftermath of a relationship, when the dude regrets leaving his lady and is trying to get back with her. Told with a straight shooting, tell-it-like-is tone, it’s not surprising that the song peaked at No. 8 on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.
