by COMMON on Sep.02, 2009, under EXCLUSIVES, NEWS

Hey! Let’s keep the positivitay! it ain’t over yet! LeToya has the #1 R&B/Hip-hop album in the country! which makes it two consecutive albums topping the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop chart! Not bad! Feeling a little better?
UPDATE: Here is proof from Billboard

FINAL NUMBERS: LETOYA SOLD 33,000 COPIES, ENTERS AT #12 ON BILLBOARD HOT 100
by LeToyaNews on Sep.02, 2009, under NEWS

The lone Rap act still in the Top 10 this week was California’s Black Eyed Peas. Quite distant from their Ruthless Records roots on The E.N.D. , Interscope’s other big money-maker is just one week away from Rap’s second platinum plaque handed out to 2009 releases. Label-mate Eminem sank to #28 with his Relapse, an album that may reach 1.5 million units sold before October.
This week’s charts welcomed urban newcomers. LeToya Luckett released her second solo album, Lady Love. The Capitol Records release debuted at #12, with 33,000 first week units sold. Ludacris and MIMS guest on the release. Queen Latifah’s first Rap release in 11 years debuted inside the Top 25. Released independently on her famed ’90s imprint Flavor Unit, Latifah’s Persona featured an album almost entirely produced by Florida hit-makers Cool & Dre. The other debut release came from Alternative emcee Matisyahu. The third album from the West Chester, Pennsylvania native focuses more on his Reggae influence, boasting production from Sly & Robbie.
Fabolous fell 13 slots with Loso’s Way. With strong radio play, the Def Jam album likely passes the 200,000 mark next week. Twista’s Category F5 continues to prove to be a success for both the Chicago veteran and EMI Records. Released independently, with the strong distribution, the effort is similar to the machinery coming with Raekwon’s highly-touted Only Built 4 Cuban Linx 2 album coming later this month.
[BAD NEWS] LETOYA SELLS ABOUT 30,000 COPIES OF LADY LOVE ALBUM, ENTERS AT #15
by COMMON on Sep.01, 2009, under NEWS

Blame it on the economy, blame it on the sucky distribution, blame it on the lack of promotion, blame it on the Knowles, blame it on her official site, Blame it on Capito-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-ol! Whoever you wanna blame it on LeToya will not even make the Top 10 on the next Billboard’s chart with only 29,665 copies of “Lady Love” sold. #15. (The numbers might changed a little bit tomorrow when announced by Billboard but not from much). Yes it hurts to get this type a news. Didn’t expect a such great album would flop so hard.
The question now is is: Will she be able to recover from that and pull out a Lady Gaga/ Robin Thicke with a poor first week sale and end-up platinum or Is she gona be dropped Capitol Records (or even better: QUIT their dumb asses). Only time will tell.
UPDATE: Capitol only shipped 110,000 copies of the album versus 400,000 for the first album.
[BAD NEWS] LeToya Luckett expected to sell 25-30k first week
by thisisme on Aug.26, 2009, under NEWS

Hits Daily Double predicts LeToya will sell only 25,000 to 30,000 copies of “Lady Love” in her first week. They’re usually right. Very disapointing.
Now y’all need to double effort and support. Go buy the album!

| She’ll Debut With Between 95-105k, Atlantic Christian rockers Skillet Surprise
August 26, 2009 It’s the final week in August. Do you know where your record buyers are? They’re certainly not in stores, as retail doldrums continue, with Universal Republic‘s Colbie Caillat albumBreakthrough the top debut, on track for between 95-100k in sales, based on one-day reports from whoever’s selling music these days. Atlantic Christian rock band Skillet is the week’s big surprise, with a total that could be even more than 55-60k, when all the Christian book store returns come in. RCA‘s Imogen Heap, a Best New Artist Grammy nominee several years back, returns with Ellipse, her follow-up for the label, which looks on track for 45-50k in first-week sales, not bad at all. Sony‘s Now Country 2 is in the 35-40k range, while the rest of the list of newcomers looks like this: Letoya (Capitol) 25-30k; Arctic Monkeys (Domino) 25-30k; Ingrid Michaelson (Cabin 24) 20-25k, battling back and forth for #1 at iTunes today with Caillat; Collective Soul (Roadrunner) 18-22k; Matisyahu (Epic) 15-18k;Love & Theft (Hollywood) 15-18k; Jet (Real Horrorshow/EMM) 15-18k; Queen Latifah (Flavor Unit/Verve) 15-18k; Needtobreathe (Atlantic) 12-15k, and David Guetta (Astralwerks) 10-12k. The market was down 3% vs. last week, down 18% vs. same week last year and now down 15% year to date. Maybe we should take a tip from Guy Hands and buy the wind farm… |
