NEW BLOG POST FROM LETOYA LUCKETT: “Never Stay In Your Comfort Zone”
by LeToyaNews on Mar.04, 2010, under PRESS

LeToya wrote another blog post on GlobalGrind. Here it is…
Last week I had the honor of being a keynote speaker at the 33rd Annual Big XII Conference on Black Student Government at UT in Austin. The conference is designed to address issues facing African-American students on college campuses, and I was asked to basically tell my life story and speak about conquering your fears. I am so blessed to do what I love to do, but becoming a solo artist terrified me! At the time all I knew was being in a group situation, so when it came time for me to perform I was like, “You want me to do what? I don’t know who told you I’m supposed to go out there by myself!”, but I had to learn to ignore my fears and remember that this was a opportunity that God has blessed me with.
“Excellence is not a single act. You are what you repeatedly do.”
Someone told me this a few years ago, and I realized that it’s true! If you repeatedly let your fears stop you from of doing something, there’s a good chance you are blocking the blessing that God has for you and you’re limiting yourself from reaching your full potential. When situations I was unfamiliar with or not prepared for came up, I could have made the decision to stay in my “comfort zone”, but I wouldn’t be where I am or who I am today. Now, I’m not saying it will be easy or that you won’t find yourself nervous in new situations in your life, but after taking that initial step out on faith and ignoring that little voice saying, “I don’t think you should this” or “maybe you should wait a little while longer”, you will find yourself doing things you never thought you would do.
So what about you? What are some fears you had and conquered? How did you get over them? Let me know! Talk with you soon!
Love,
LeToya

LeToya reveals that LaTavia is getting back to doing music!!
by LeToyaNews on Feb.24, 2010, under INTERVIEWS, PRESS

Interview by Janaya Black
But with an iron determination to prove that she wasn’t just a background singer for “Beyonce and them”, Letoya Luckett has taken the industry by storm, and justifiably so. She more that proved that she has the vocal chops that others said were non-existent on her self-titled debut solo album, and validated that it wasn’t a fluke by going platinum.
Now she’s back with a vengeance with her new album, Lady Love, which boasts 2 hit singles and a new movie to boot. The FrontPage got a chance to catch up with Ms. Luckett to find out more about her new movie Preacher’s Kid and what more the world can expect to see from a woman who obviously knows what it takes to get to where she wants to be.
LETOYA INTERVIEW WITH WAVE NEWSPAPER
by LeToyaNews on Feb.03, 2010, under PRESS

Although she split from the group 10 years ago — and it has since been disbanded altogether — LeToya Luckett is probably still best known as one of the original members of Destiny’s Child. The 28-year-old Texas native released her self-titled debut album in 2006, and after it was certified platinum, she set her sights on another venture: acting. Currently starring in “Preacher’s Kid,” based on the biblical story of the prodigal son, Luckett portrays Angie, a pastor’s daughter whose freedom has long been restricted by her father’s profession. Tired of the pressure, she joins a traveling gospel group against her father’s wishes. She recently spoke to the Wave about the evolution of her career, and the pressure of making her feature film debut in a lead role.
How did you get this role? Were you approached with a script or did you audition?
I tried out. I was actually cast for another role in the movie, the role of Desiree [played by Tammy Townsend] but four days before the shoot date, director Stan Foster called me and asked whether I was interested in playing the role of Angie. To my knowledge, Angie had already been cast … I had never done a feature film before, so I was like, “Oh my God, I know nothing about this.” Needless to say, they flew me down the very next day, put me with an acting coach and it was on from then.
Did you have trouble relating to your character?
My father is a minister, so I had some experience with being the preacher’s kid a bit, though I didn’t have immediate pressures. But, just being in the church period, a lot … of perfection is expected of you and people think you can’t do this or you can’t do that. It is hard sometimes to just grow up and experience your own life, and that’s what this movie is about. Angie, which is the character I play, really doesn’t get the opportunity to have a regular life like a teenager would — like being able to go out and go to the movies with friends. Her father didn’t really allow that. She eventually moved out on her own, bumps her head a couple of times and then she eventually comes back home.
LOOKS LIKE LETOYA GOT THE EXTREMIST “CHRISTIAN” ANTI-GAY ACTIVISTS AFTER HER…

From The “Gay Christian Movement Watch”:
The preacher’s [gay marriage supporting] kid
A new Christian film star on the horizon? You may want to take a closer look first.
Its truly a tragic thing when we have to alert people in the church about other “church-types” who are working against God’s will to infect the church with their insanity. Enter Matt Crouch, stage left.
The preacher’s [gay marriage supporting] kid
The Preacher’s Kid, is the latest religious movie backed by Matt Crouch and his Gener8Xion Entertainment company.
The star of Crouch’s new movie is Letoya Luckett and she’s about to seduce your pastor using a very familiar biblical story. But the story within the story is an old one: satan is cunning and many in the contemporary church are ripe for his deception.
I watched the TBN talkup show where DC area pimpster Micheal Freeman and his wife Dee Dee gushed and told pastors to get their daughters and rush out to see the movie. On a contradictory note, Freeman said the movie wasn’t for the church, but his wife turned right around and said the church should support it by packing out theaters. So which lie is it?

[PRESS] LETOYA LUCKETT INTERVIEW WITH COMPLEX MAGAZINE
by thisisme on Nov.12, 2009, under INTERVIEWS, PRESS

Sometimes music comebacks can be doomed by irrelevance (word to the homie Ma$e). Luckily, LeToya Luckett doesn’t have that problem. The lovely LeToya has had a spot in our hearts since she was with Destiny’s Child, so we were happy to see her pop up on 106 & Park last night with her new video “Regret,” featuring Ludacris. We figured it was high time to catch up with the confident singer/actress.
Yep, actress. Oh you ain’t know? Between working on music and promoting her album Lady Love, LeToya is set to appear in two films next year—Preacher’s Kid and Killers—as well as the play Rumors. Sure, she’s busy, but who’s too busy to undergo The Complex 7? Peep LeToya’s answers on “roach killers,” Marvin Gaye, and whose poster she used to kiss every night. Watch the “Regret” video and read the interview below…
Interview by Andrew Rivera
#1: WHAT’S THE NUMBER ONE DEAL-BREAKER FOR A POTENTIAL BOYFRIEND?
LeToya says: If you have no personality, I can’t do it…no personality and body odor. And you have to have some relationship with God. You can’t be one of those atheists.
#2: WHAT TYPE OF FOOTWEAR WOULD MAKE YOU COMPLETELY DISMISS A MAN AS A POTENTIAL HOOK-UP?
LeToya says: Like the wrong pair of shoes? I don’t know if I’m a square-toe shoe sort of girl. No! I don’t know if it’s the pointy ones I don’t like—we call them “roach killers” in Houston. [Laughs.] Like, I better not see a dude with roach killers on, no roach-killer Gators!
#3: WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE RAP ALBUM?
LeToya says: T.I.—yeah, I mean there is no specific one. You’ve got Paper Trail , I love I’m Serious, his first album, and King is great.
#4: WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE COMFORT FOOD OR HANGOVER REMEDY?
LeToya says: I don’t drink or smoke. Comfort food? You know what? I love cupcakes, I’m a cupcake girl. I always go to Crumbs when I’m in the city.
#5: WHAT’S THE MOST EFFECTIVE APHRODISIAC FOR YOU?
LeToya says: Anything by Marvin Gaye. His voice is a problem. He has the sexiest voice. Or Maxwell! Yeah, I wouldn’t know about a liquor or anything, so I guess I’d have to apply it to music.
#6: WHO IS A CHILDHOOD CRUSH YOU CAN’T BELIEVE YOU HAD?
LeToya says: I only had one crush. The only reason I want to take it back is because he ended up being one of my best friends. I was in love! When I say love, I mean, oh my god. Like kissed his poster everyday. Romeo from Immature. Yes, Romeo from Immature, I wanted the eye-patch and everything, I loved him. Kissed the poster every day. But we ended up becoming best friends, so it’s weird, cause now that’s the homie and it’s like, “Wow, I liked you—a lot.”
#7: DO YOU HAVE A FEMALE CRUSH?
LeToya says: No!
LETOYA: “I HAD 2 HOURS TO RECORDS EVERY SONG IN THE MOVIE PREACHER’S KID”!
by thisisme on Oct.28, 2009, under INTERVIEWS, PRESS
Here is a very nice interview of LeToya with Da Gospel Truth.
LeToya Luckett is probably best known as being part of one the best selling girl groups of all time, Destiny’s Child. She’s also known as one of the members that made an early exit out of the group at the height of their second album, “The Writings on the Wall.” Now that the dust has settled, she is back on top on the same playing field as her former members and she’s back in a MAJOR WAY! With a platinum album under her belt, a sophomore project that is following in the same footsteps and a burgeoning acting career with two movies set to be released in 2010, the days of Destiny’s Child seem like a lifetime ago!
In “Preacher’s Kid” you are the lead character. How did you get that part?
Initially, I had a much smaller role in the movie. I was actually casted for the role of Angie, which is the lead role, 4 days before shooting began. The director Stan Foster felt like after viewing my audition tapes, I was better suited for the lead. So that’s how that all happened.
Were you nervous about playing the lead?
Absolutely! I had never done a feature film before and to prepare for a part that I knew nothing about in 4 days was crazy! I didn’t really have any acting experience, so it was definitely a challenge for me. At the end of the day everything worked out better than I imagined. I had a great acting coach, Troy Rowland and Stan Foster was very encouraging and helpful also. Everyone was so awesome to work with.
[REMEMBER THIS??? LMAO] BEYONCE SAYS “LETOYA IS TONE DEAF”. YEAH RIGHT!
by ControlFreak on Oct.17, 2009, under PRESS

Yeah yeah we know, it’s been about ten years since the big drama happened. But it’s just like a classic movie. You can watch it and talk about it over and over again, we’ll never get bored. That drama made Destiny’s Child one of the biggest group of all time. Human race is just like that. We love drama and we love to be entertainened. We want something to talk about. That’s just how it is. Life would be quite boring without that, don’t you think?
Today, we bringing you THE very famous Vibe Magazine article that everyone has been talking about for years. It’s a good read! Check out how ridiculous as hell is Beyonce playing the victims. No Beyonce you failed at making LeToya disappear. What did you seriously believe? Like you thought she was just going to shut up and work for McDonalds? Nah baby, LeToya is a strong black woman. She is a the proof that hard work and faith is always a winner. She showed the world that if you don’t give up and don’t let people stop you, YOU CAN DO IT. That goes to EVERYONE reading this, if you have a dream, a goal, please NEVER EVER GIVE UP! LeToya is a model for that and that’s one of the reasons why I love her. She’s a fighter, just like me. If she can overcome the Knowles then I can overcome my personal challenges. People like the Knowles thought they could control people’s life over God’s plans but that’s just not how life works.
It makes me laugh when Mathew Knowles takes credit from LeToya’s success. (He said on Billboard Magazine that she hit number one thanks to him and his bootcamp shit). Anyway 10 years later, LeToya is standing strong, right here with you Beyonce (above on that same BET Awards Red Carpet, maybe not on that same stage grrrr) and that, that you want it or not.
Here is the article in its entirety…. (PS: I LOOOVE Beyonce, no sarcasm. I just hate her dad.) God bless everyone!
It’s a cloudy Sunday morning in downtown Houston. St. John’s Methodist Church is packed with parishioners overcome by the power of the Holy Spirit. Worshipers wail a chorus of “amens” that echoes through the modest two-story building. While the crowd urges him to “preach” and “take your time, take your time,” Pastor Rudy Rasmus, a laughing man with friendly eyes, roars, “Right now we’re trusting you to fix our relationships, Lord; to put us back together like you intended us to be.”
In the balcony of St. John’s, a young woman sits crying. Her name is Beyoncé Knowles. Her head is bowed, but you can hear her tender whimpers; as her tears dot the well-worn landscape of her Bible. Her best friend, Kelendria Rowland, a.k.a. Kelly, sits two rows ahead, also in the throes of an emotional experience. Their friend and partner Michelle Williams would ordinarily be here as well but she’s visiting family in Illinois. Beyoncé’s parents, Mathew and Tina Knowles, are dry-eyed and squished into a neighboring pew; and her 14-year-old sister Solange sits quietly in the back with a gaggle of fresh-faced girlfriends.
In keeping with the casual dress code of the church, no one wears his or her Sunday’s best. Beyoncé looks like she’s en route to the gym in an Adidas tank top, matching track pants, and white Nikes. Kelly looks like she’s ready to spend a day at the mall dressed in a pink
T-shirt, jeans, and flip-flops. Today they are not glamorous members of the super group Destiny’s Child. Today they are in God’s house, and their physical appearance does not matter. Knowing this, Beyoncé tilts her head toward the heavens and begins to rock slowly to and fro. Her tears trickle into soft exaltations. “Thank you, Jesus,” she says. “Thank you, Jesus. Thank you, Jesus. Thank you, Jesus.”
Later, over oxtails and candied yams at the popular Houston soul-food restaurant This Is It, Beyoncé and Kelly explain their earlier display of emotion. “People think that when we’re crying we’re upset, but we’re not. We’re just so thankful and happy that we’ve truly been blessed.”
“So blessed,” Kelly agrees. “So blessed.” Indeed they have been.
Through more ups and downs than the Nasdaq and stranger subplots than a tawdry daytime soap opera, Destiny’s Child have managed to establish themselves as America’s preeminent girl group. They share the rarified air of bona fide stardom with young pop phenomenons like ‘N Sync, the Backstreet Boys, Britney Spears, and Christina Aguilera (the group opened for the blond genie in a bottle during her summer 2000 tour). Sexy midriff-baring ensembles and Lone Star State sass have helped the group sell close to 7 million albums in less than three years, garner two Grammy Award nominations, an NAACP Image Award, four Billboard Music Awards, and legions of devoted fans. The girls scored yet another big hit last October with “Independent Women, Part 1,” the first single from the Charlie’s Angels soundtrack.
And this is just the tip of the iceberg promises their representative John Battaglia, director of the music division at the Wilhelmina modeling agency. “I’m working on a cosmetics deal, a major soft-drink deal, and talking with a number of car companies. With everything [Destiny's Child has] planned for 2001, they’re poised to take it to the next level, out of this stratosphere.”
Those plans include February’s release of their highly anticipated third album, Survivor. The girls describe their latest effort as more mature and easier on the men. The fact that there’s a new album even worth discussing is somewhat surprising, but it’s also a testament to the tenacity that goes back to the group’s beginnings.
First stepping on the scene in 1997, the then Houston-bred quartet was composed of 19-year-old friends Beyoncé, Kelly, LaTavia Roberson, and LeToya Luckett. There was no discernible difference between them, Allure, 702, and the other R&B girl groups out at the time. Sure, “No, No, No,” from the quartet’s self-titled debut, was a hit (Wyclef Jean oversaw the single’s remix), but for an album that eventually went platinum there was very little buzz. It appeared the children of Destiny had won an all-expense-paid trip to one-hit wonderland.
But what a difference the right army of producers and catchy lyrics can make. Kevin “She’kspere” Briggs, Rodney Jerkins, and writer Kandi Buruss helmed the project, infusing the good girls with a sexy edge. Following in the footsteps of TLC, Destiny’s Child picked up where “No Scrubs” left off and galloped to the top of the charts with their multi-platinum second album, The Writing’s on the Wall. Chockful of sophisticated, ball-busting, and often comical hits that berated brothers for being bothersome (“You make me wanna throw my pager out the window / Tell MCI to cut the phone chord / Break my lease so I can move / ‘Cause you’re a bug-a-boo”); shady (“Say my name, say my name / If no one is around you say, “Baby I love you” / If you ain’t running game”); and on their watershed “Bills, Bills, Bills” just plain triflin’ (“Now you’ve been maxing out my card / Giving me bad credit, buying gifts with my own name”), W.O.W. earned the group reputations for being everything from gold- digging male bashers‹a charge the girls heatedly deny‹to new-millennium feminists out to challenge the bitches-ain’t-shit posturing that plagued much of late-’90s R&B and hip hop.
Letoya interview with Afro.com
by LeToyaNews on Sep.21, 2009, under PRESS

Singer, songwriter and rookie actress LeToya Luckett, formerly of bestselling girl group Destiny’s Child, recently stopped by retailer DTLR in the Mall at Prince George’s to promote the release of her sophomore album Lady Love.
The album is a mixture of emotional, finger-wagging songs that declare the singer’s independence and unwavering self-esteem.
Standout cuts on the 15- track album include “Not Anymore,” “Lazy,” “Don’t Need U” and the feisty lead single, “She Ain’t Got,” where Luckett playfully tells a cheating boyfriend no other woman will ever compare to her.
Lady Love presents a new, stronger side of the Texas native. Where her first album LeToya showcased the singer as a forlorn lover eager to please her mate, her August release debuts a more defiant, grownup woman with a new perspective on life and love.
“You have to love yourself, you can’t be selfish, but a lot of time we find ourselves in relationships giving everything to the point that we don’t have anything to give back to ourselves,” said Luckett in an exclusive interview with the AFRO.
“It can get to the point where we don’t know how to receive because we are so used to giving. I also learned that you don’t have to be so emotional. Sometimes women are just ready to fight about everything.”
As part of her own evolution into womanhood, the 28-year-old vocalist said reflecting on her past breakups, make-ups and tears has helped enrich her music and her personal life.
“It helped a lot,” she said of reliving her most painful experiences. “I was able to get into that head space again. I remember being in the studio and thinking about the past and actually feeling my heart break all over again. But I was happy at the same time because those moments are what shaped me as a lady, that’s actually why I called my album Lady Love.”

LeToya on Same-Sex Marriage: “It’s Going to Happen. Everybody Deserves Love”
by ControlFreak on Aug.31, 2009, under NEWS, PRESS
For some reason I always thought she was very convervative and was against gay marriage. (you know she’s a church girl so…) . I know I AM (against marriage in general – not just gay. It’s just a piece of paper that don’t mean shit to me). In the meantime I know she has friends who are very flamboyant so it’s another proof that she’s open minded. Anyway she proves me wrong in this interview she gave to Rodonline.
Here is their article:
David Michael Conner at The Advocate publishes an amazing interview with LeToya Luckett, one of the founding members of Destiny’s Child. The Houston native chats up her new album Lady Love and the hot track “She Ain’t”—which she says she “knew the kids would love”—and says attitudes toward gays are changing in the South.
Absolutely. Ab-so-lutely. It’s one of those things that’s like, you know what, you’ve got to let people be who they are. Whether you agree with a lifestyle or not, you have to let that person be who they are. You have to love them for who they are.
I just went to the Latex Ball in New York. Oh, my God! I have never seen so much creativity in one room. So much freedom. That’s what I appreciate about the gay community. You know: Do you and don’t worry about other people and their opinions. It’s so colorful and lively, and everybody’s not sitting around and — you know when you go to a club and everybody’s sitting around and standing along the walls and people watch? It’s not about that. Everybody [at gay clubs] is ready to let their hair down and have fun and get into it, and that’s about love.
I hadn’t had that much fun in a long time. A lo-o-ong time. I mean, they were givin’ it, Honey! Gi-ving. And I love that. I love it. I can’t stand hateful people. I can’t stand hard-hearted people, and unfortunately there’s a lot of people like that in this world, and it’s got to die. Let it die, let it die, let it die. Let love live.
Luckett says that she believes same-sex marriage will “eventually happen” in her native Texas. “Or people are going to move and go to places where it’s accepted. I don’t know if it’ll happen tomorrow, but whatever is in God’s will, it will be. Hey, everybody deserves love. Everybody deserves commitment. And why shouldn’t the gay community have that?”
She might be onto something about attitudes slowly changing in Texas. A brand new poll released this morning by 11 News/KUHF Houston Public Radio shows openly lesbian Houston City Controller Annise Parker “leads her main opponents in the race to become the city’s next mayor.”

LeToya interview with CNITC
by thisisme on Aug.30, 2009, under INTERVIEWS, PRESS

First, I would like to thank Brandi (Studio B PR) for getting everything set up for the DTLR event that took place Friday, August 28th feat. LeToya Luckett. LeToya, who just recently released her latest album “Lady Love” was in the DMV to promote the hot album. I, for one have listened to the cd and I enjoy EVER track. I am not just saying it, I really do enjoy the whole cd and I would highly recommend that you go out and buy it (sold at your local DTLR as well)
For this interview I sought after a guest writer. I am all for someone wanting to work on their portfolio and to get opprtunities in this industry. That brings me to Lee Anderson. I have worked with Lee before (he has covered some of my events and interviewed some clients) He seemed to be the right person for this interview! Below is his recap and then his interview with LeToya. Hope you enjoy!
There is a line of about 50 from the back of the DTLR retail store inside of the Mall at Prince George’s in Hyattsville MD (or as local heads simply call it, PG) all the way to the entrance at the front. Close by, a DJ is spinning cuts from the CD that all the line holders are fidgeting with nervously; excitedly, in expectation of an autograph and a personal moment with the girl that is on the CD cover, one of the hottest women in the game right now, LeToya Luckett. Nikki from Greenbelt Maryland said she wanted to ask her how she dealt with the media and rumors. Kristal from Hyattsville said that she was a singer as well and wanted to know where she got her inspiration to write from, and always be so relatable. And relatable she definitely is. LeToya walked in, (looking beautiful as always, might I add) and you could feel the excitement in the room rise. As people began to come up and get their copies of Lady Love, the sophomore effort from LeToya autographed, I noticed the way she interacted with her fans. Even stopping at one point to take the chain off a young fan, Mark from SE DC, whose mother brought he and his siblings to get their copy of Lady Love signed, and putting it on while posing for a picture. I over heard a couple of other fans leaving the store remarking among them how nice and humble she is. Great way to boost sales LeToya, just be likeable!
LA: How are you doing today Ms. Luckett, you’re looking well. Nice to meet you.
LL: Thank you, nice to meet you too.
LA: Let’s get right to it. In terms of your growth, from LeToya, to Lady Love, how do you feel that your growth was best exhibited on this album?
