BUSTED! MATT KEMP JUGGLING RIHANNA AND LETOYA AT THE SAME TIME
by COMMON on Jan.04, 2010, under FEATURED, GOSSIP

OK so we know LeToya has been “chilling” with someone. That someone happens to be LA Dodgers Mr Matt Kemp. Rumors has been spreading lately about Rihanna messing around with him for the past week or so. If I was her I wouldn’t try to mess with someone that sings “She Ain’t Got Shit On Me” … She’s playing with her life big time and risks to be hit again. Or maybe she’s just one of those who like that…. JERRY, JERRY, JERRY, JERRY!
15 BEST & WORSE ALBUMS OF 2009
by COMMON on Dec.18, 2009, under LETOYANEWS FEATURES
Christmas is coming. Everybody I know will get a copy of “Lady Love”. (I bought an extra 15 copies and if you a REAL fan you should do the same). If you want to add other albums to your xmas packs and you don’t know what to pick, I made the research for you to help you with your choice.
2009 was the WORSE in music. Autotune destroying the airwaves, bad music and bad album sales. I CAN NOT listen to the radio no more! BUT still a few good albums came out.
Here is from a LeToya’s fan perspective the best and worse in music for the year of 2009.
15 BEST ALBUMS OF 2009

#15. MARIAH CAREY: Memoirs of an imperfect angel 2.8/5
Biggest disappointment of the year
Mariah Carey failed to impress this year. I like the old school vibe on some songs but something is just missing from that album to make it as magic as her previous ones. Still a cool album but not her best. (PS: I am a Mariah lamb)
Best tracks: “The impossible”, “It’s a wrap”, “Up out my face”.
LISTEN HERE

#14 TIMBALAND: Shock Value II 3/5
This album as a whole is not as good as “Shock Value 1″ (Where’s the ol Timbaland!!?) but there are a few very good songs: “Tomorrow in the bottle”, “Ease Off the liquor”.

#13. CIARA: Fantasy Ride 3/5
Over-promoted album of the year (with no results)
I have a love/hate type of relationship with Ciara. By the time that album was released I was already tired of it since 95% of it leaked months before. The three main singles were really bad. (in a bad way). “Go Girl” had a hot video but the track just plainly sucked, “Never Ever” was aite. Love sex magic was being played only because of Justin Timberlake. It sounded like a reject from his own album “Futuresex, Lovesounds”. Hell even Britney Spears declined to record the song. I’m just shocked that she got a Grammy nomination for it. (thank you Justin). I wish LeToya had 1/10 of the promotion Ciara is getting from Jive. The label is putting millions of dollars on her, getting her to open for Britney Spears, Get her endorsement deals, etc…. They surely didn’t get their investment back after the album tanked. The funny part is both girls sold about the same. (but Toya with zero promo). I still love a lot of songs from “Fantasy Ride”. Best songs: “Like a surgeon”, “G is for Girl”, “Work”.

#12. R. KELLY: Untitled 3/5
This is the album I’m currently jamming. I didn’t expect it to be this good since I don’t like the single “Number One”. The best songs are the one where R. Kelly stays true to himself and not when he tries to match today’s current standard in music.
Best tracks: “Be my #2″, “Religious”, “Echo”

#11. RIHANNA: Rated R 3.1/5
I like this album. I could’ve charted it a little higher but the thing is I got tired of it pretty quick. It’s a very coherent album. She can’t perform for shit but her producers makes everything sounds good.
Best songs: “Russian roulette”, “Rude Boy”, “Photographs”, “Cold Case Love”

LETOYA’S LADY LOVE OFFICIALLY PASSES THE 100,000 SOLD MARK THIS WEEK
by COMMON on Dec.14, 2009, under FEATURED, NEWS

Whohooo! LeToya’s “Lady Love” just passed the 100,000 mark with Lady Love! (103,003 to be exact) You might say it’s not that good but it’s not bad at all if you take in consideration the slow start at 33,000. Usually if you sell that low, your album just disappear and you get stuck with that low number. LeToya managed to sell steadily for the past few months thanks to the hit “Regret” (which if it had been first single, the story would be so much different). Still a lot of people don’t even know the album is already out. I’m sure a few national television shows would’ve helped to boost that number. Can we get a 106 & Park performance of “Regret” BET?!!
Below is the official numbers from soundscan for the Hip-hop and R&B albums sales of 2009 (so far, the year is not over) and it’s not looking good at all for ANYONE. If it continues this way, the music industry will be dead sooner then what we all think. I suggest all these artists to look for a plan B for their income and keep music as a hobby. I can see Mc Donalds being overstaffed next year around this time. Seriously it’s time people PAY for their music.
By the way it’s funny how for Billboard, if you’re black then you are “Hip-Hop-R&B”. Rihanna, Seal and Akon shouldn’t be on that list. Also a lot of these albums have been released in 2008 but are listed here since they have been selling during this year.
I also think Billboard should change their requirements when it comes to their certifications. Platinum and Gold from 5 years ago ain’t the same today. In term of percentage of people who’s getting recognition, if we want to keep it decent, it should be 500,000 for Platinum and 100,000 for Gold. (and maybe 4 million for Diamond). They should also introduce plastic and aluminum.
