[WATCH] Destiny’s Child – Temptation (Live) [Throwback video]

by ControlFreak on Sep.07, 2009, under LIVE PERFORMANCES

“Lady Love” has just been released and when everything should be popping all over with live performances and interviews everywhere on national medias instead it all just seems to die down.  All we have to offer you is some old throwback video of Destiny’s Child performing “Temptation” at Teen Summit in 1999. (mind you, it is the first time this is surfacing on the internet).

Something definitely off this era.

I wish LeToya had a chance to sing lead back then. She would have progressed eve more

After looking at that performance Beyonce wasn’t ready either. She interacted with the crowd nicely but that was a rough vocal performance. I think many don’t realize it takes diligence, practice and time for many singers to become powerhouse performers. Beyonce worked out her Kinks in DC4 1st and 2nd eras. Toya worked out hers out in her first solo era. And sadly, some never work them out.

I think all the girls could have benefited from being able to sing lead. Different songs need different voices. Latavia could have killed Temptations. Bee was struggling to sing those low notes, while latavia would have done them effortlessly.

I couldn’t agree more. I truly believe that having no leads while in DC played a huge role in Toya’s lack of confidence in herself when it came down to going solo. If she had been able to experience what it’s like to hold a song/performance down while the others did back vocals, she would’ve been ready to go from the first album.

All of the original members of the group were in developmental stages as far as vocals and performance are concerned (BEYONCE INCLUDED!!)…Since she got the bulk of the leads and numerous opportunities to carry songs/performances, she was able to craft and develop her skills as an overall entertainer much more than the others did. As for Kelly, sometimes I just don’t know how to critique her … she’s talented (and they ALL are), but she’s still struggling live…watching her perform in my country at the Miss Universe Pageant was slightly uncomfortable because the shakiness was so evident. It’s funny because her body language and stage presence exude great confidence, but the vocals sounded like every note was clinging onto the edge …Hopefully, she improves because at this point in her career, there’s really no excuse.

Toya just came out the gate 3 years ago and look at the vast improvement she’s made already …and yet, this is the one who was supposed to be the “tone deaf” member of the group…
