[Review] “Tears” and “Not Anymore”

“Tears”
“What are you doing?! How did we get here?! What is this feeling!? Tell me it’s mine…!” YES! “Tears” is by far the BEST “baby maker” on the album! “I Need A U” while exceptionally done, is like foreplay compared to “Tears” which is UNDENIABLY the main event!
LeToya is experiencing such a blissful moment of ecstasy that she has apparently lost all sense of her surroundings. The music, the melodies, the lyrics, the background vocals, the harmonies, and the lead vocals are all teaming with a sensuality that is orgasmic in nature. The music/production of this song meets the writing/vocals seamlessly; this song palpitates and emanates in such a fervid manner, that it’s almost unbearable. You may even find yourself inattentively panting as you listen to this record.
Given the vivid intensity of this song, you might expect LeToya to become vulgar with her lyrics, but she does no such thing. She instead chooses to let your imagination fill in the pertinent details, in light of explicitly emblazoning the acts in your mind. I’m beyond impressed with the vocals on this song, there is so much going on, so many harmonies overlapping and interpolating at once yet LeToya somehow manages to make it cohesive.
You would think that by now I would cease to be amazed by the quality of this album, but LeToya continues to impress me!
This is one of my favorite songs of all time!!

Listen to “Tears”:
“Not Anymore”
It took awhile but this song grew on me. It’s actually fairly catchy, and the vocals are well done. The ad-libs and lead vocals evoke plenty of authentic emotion. The storyline is a simple one; LeToya has gotten over the heartache, and realized that she doesn’t want to deal with the drama, and the stress that her man is obviously causing her.
She refuses to settle any longer; she has now truly recognized her value. She calls on her listeners to “feel” her and agree to do the same, “somebody say I don’t want it anymore, I don’t want it anymore, cuz I know my worth so you can keep, that drama I don’t want it anymore…”
This song was unfortunately and inexplicably chosen as the lead single for “Lady Love.” I call this unfortunate because although this is by no means a bad song, it is definitely the weakest song on the entire album. The fact that it was allowed to be released at all, let alone as the lead single, reflects poor decision making on the part of LeToya’s management and Capitol Records.
I’m sure the fact that Ne-Yo penned this song played a large part in the argument for releasing it. While Ne-Yo is capable of writing ‘hits’ NOTHING about this song screams “HIT!!” whatsoever. I honestly don’t know what they were trying to accomplish with this record being the first single, but unless it was an attempt to turn people OFF from LeToya, (which actually wouldn’t be surprising given Capitol’s history) then they failed. In light of all the GREAT records to be found on “Lady Love” I simply can not understand why this was chosen to be the introduction to the “Lady Love” album and era. To call this song “album filler” would be an understatement. This song is tepid at best.
