"Lady Love" is THE best R&B Album of 2009!

The album is presented from the perspective of a mature woman who's been there and done that: been in love, hurt by love, grew tired of love, and grew from love.

I LOVE this album and I've been playing this album non-stop since I got it on Sunday, but if I had my favorites, I'd say:

Lady Love - Expresses the reality of the do it all/be it all woman.

She Ain't Got... - This is the "oh Hell NO!" anthem where she effortlessly taunts her cheating boyfriend and proclaims her superiority above the competition.

Not Anymore - She rejects the notion of accepting underappreciation and mistreatment in her relationship and moves on.

Lazy - Depicts the burn out that some people feel with relationships that leads them to ultimately grow weary and lose hope in finding love.

I Need A U - Describes the yearning of wanting "that man" in your life (more specifically, your bedroom...)

Take Away Love Feat. Estelle - Borrows the advice that I've heard from older women that "if you want to end a relationship with someone - STOP HAVING SEX with them!"

Don't Need You - Reaffirms the decision to pursue real happiness and leave a toxic relationship.

Album also includes: "Good To Me", "Over", "Regret" Feat. Ludacris, "Tears", "Matter", "After Party", "Drained", and "Love Rollercoaster" which featured LeToya.

As I said, the whole album is great and If you enjoy Real R&B you'll love it!

Lady Love had several projected release dates across 2008 and early 2009, eventually landing in August 2009. Involving production and songwriting input from a great number of people -- including Tank, Ne-Yo, Ron Feemster, Ron Felder, and Elvis Williams -- and 15 tracks deep, it's just as scattered and uneven as LeToya's self-titled debut, and sounds even more fussed-over, even without the knowledge about its delays. That does not mean there is a shortage of high points. "Regret," with a significant sonic resemblance to Mary Mary's "God in Me" (from the rat-a-tat snares to the alternately gliding and prodding vocal attack), is a mesmeric kiss-off. The pummeling "She Ain't Got," nearly overloaded with assaultive sounds from every direction, is startlingly brash. On the melancholy "Take Away Love," LeToya proves to be a good fit for Ryan Leslie's meringue-light yet affecting melodic sense. Despite so many involved hands, the album is clearly directed toward the pop market, heavier on gleaming synthesizers and in-your-face production. It's too bad that it wasn't attained with more focused results (with fewer cooks). ~ Andy Kellman, All Music Guide

So after a full week of the debut, I think I have drilled these songs in my head for long enough to give a full review of the tracklisiting:

Lady Love: Although, I am a die hard R&B fan, I can tolerate this slightly pop tune. I really like the breakdown. I wish this song was a little more vocally exciting but I think the fact that she sang in the tone that she did for most of the song was enough for me

She Aint Got...: Most of yall already know how I feel about this song. I usually skip this song, I like that it's uptempo but have personally preferred a more hip-hop type of uptempo rather than pop. If it would have been similar to an uptempo like Gangsta Grills with an urban touch, I would have enjoyed it more. But I love the confidence if not anything

Not Anymore: I don't really pay attention to the comments about this song. I do think this song was a sufficient first single. The songs that do the best are the simple ones that everyone can sing-along with. The easy lyrics, great message, and catchy chorus were characteristics of a hit but we know what happened so I won't go into it.

Lazy: This was my favorite snippet and turned into one of my favorite songs. I love the clever play on the words and personifying her heart as "lazy" It's genius. The vocals are great!

Good To Me: A very good power song, the message is great and on a good note. The climax of the song is one of the best on the album

Over: I'm glad LeToya knows that every song doesn't have to be a vocally powerful song and that as long as you internalize the lyrics you will have a success. In this song, you can seriously hear the emtion in her voice. If someone were to tell me she was crying in the studio while recording this, I would believe it

Regret: Great song, great confidence, great rap, great beat and melody. Just a Grade A song.

I Need A U: Love the airy and sultry voice in this song, and the guitar solo at the breakdown/beat change is one of my favorite parts of the album. I like how sexy she is in this song.

Take Away Love: Love this song, this is a true soul song, I really like when she puts men in the background vocals, it gives a nice touch and it complements her soprano voice. Love the laid back vocals.

After Party: Another song that I like. This is mainly attributed to the old school feel to the beat and the arrangement of the vocals. It sounds very classic to me and can't wait to debut it once I get furniture in my apartment and can have guests over

Drained: THANK YOU!!! Finally the perfect mixture of pop and r&b. The beat is pop but I feel like everything else is urban except for the chorus. I like the power given through the verses. She comes hard in all the verses. This song is bliss for me.

Tears: I love this song, It shows Toya's vulnerable side and I like it. I really like the beat.

Matter: An ordinary beat over extraordinary vocals. Don't want you to looo-hoo-oose me....that's all I need to say.

Love Rollercoaster is straight. I;ve already played it out months ago, so I skip over it now. Nothing against the song though

Don't Need You: I'm glad she ened the album with this song. It should be symbolic that you don't need to the drama anymore. Great power behind the vocals

Overall, the album is light years ahead of the debut. She has gron so much in such a small anount of time and it's not stopping anytime soon. Album three we will be running for cover once again.

It has been almost three years since LeToya Luckett released an album. Her sophomore album, Lady Love, offers an array of tracks that range from party songs to late night, soft ballads playing on not just love, but also heartbreak and break-ups. Lady Love is available in stores now and showcases Luckett’s vocal growth and confidence, while focusing on her vocals. The album only features three other artist: Ludacris, Estelle, and Mims.
The album opens with “Lady Love”, which shares its name with the album. The song begins with twinkle sound effects laced with Luckett’s whispering voice. The tempo quickly changes and makes your head and shoulders immediately want to bounce to this hypnotic beat.
Luckett has clearly stepped out of her comfort zone in “She Aint Got”, a fast-paced, aggressive track. The second single from the album, it is a hardcore version of “She Don’t” from her first self-titled and platinum debut album, LeToya.
The first single, “Not Anymore”, is the anthem for ladies who are fed up and tired of a no-good-man and was written by Ne-Yo and produced by Bei Maejor. It reached number seven on the Billboard “Bubbling Under Hot 100” chart.
In “Lazy”, she explains why her heart gets lazy because she is simply tired of loving someone after a breakup. “Good To Me” is a slow track with repetitive piano chords throughout and heavy percussion. She designs her dream man while wishing that he will just be good to her. “Over” sounds just like Pleasure P’s song, “Under” and the echo in the hook is well done and fits perfectly.
With an assist from Ludacris on the third official single, “Regret”, Luckett explores how her ex is in regret over leaving her and wants to be back with her. This track was produced by Tank and he recycled Kelly Rowland’s “Ghetto”. The track is very similar to Rowland’s, but has more spunk and sounds like a slowed version of Mary Mary’s God in Me.
“I Need A U” is a sexy, slow ballad with a whispered melody. Luckett sings of her fantasy guy to come and “ease her pain” of loneliness. The electric guitar solo on the bridge takes this song to the next level. She threatens to “Take Away Love” on a collaboration with her friend Estelle, who spits encouraging words over Luckett’s pretty vocals. I am not a big Estelle fan and her strong accent is a horrible contrast to Luckett’s vocals.
“After Party” is such a clichéd name for a song, so I was not expecting much from this uptempo song and was right. Luckett compares moving one from a past relationship to the next is like an “afterparty.” This track is very similar to Brandy’s “What About Us”.
“Drained” is the cheesiest song on the album sounding like a Super Mario video game. The male backup singer’s voice is overpowering and is out of place. “Tears” is my favorite song on the entire album. When I was reading the song titles, I thought this song was going to be about a loss of love. I was definitely wrong. Luckett tells how an emotion is so overwhelming and so good, that it just brings tears to her eyes.
It seems that Luckett’s ex and rapper, Slim Thug, is the inspiration behind “Matter”, just like Luckett’s “She Don’t” from her first album. Being that “Love Rollercoaster” is a track on Mims’s album, Guilt, Luckett only sings the chorus and bridge. A radio friendly song, Luckett compares love’s ups and downs to a rollercoaster. This track is definitely one of my favorites on the album.
“Don’t Need You” the beat-box makes the song unique and enhances the instrumental. Luckett realizes that she needs to “keep it moving” and that she does not need her ex in her life anymore. Trying to step out of the box, Luckett experiment with a few uptempo songs, but stayed true to her signature style. My only complaint is that the subject matter of love’s ups and downs became a little bit monotonous.
I give this album an A-. “Tears”, “Lady Love”, “I Need A U”, “Regret”, and “Love Rollercoaster” are my favorite tracks on the album. I bought the album from Target for $9.98 and it is well worth the purchase price.

For those who might not be aware, LeToya is one of the two former members of Destiny's Child that were kicked out of the group. And it wasn't because they couldn't sing. Whilst LaTavia disappeared, LeToya made an impression as a solid solo artist when she released her debut album back in 2006. After a number of delays, her sophomore album is finally out. It's very hard to do a follow up on a critically acclaimed album but LeToya has gone all out. Those that didn't give her a chance the first time round will be swallowing their words. LeToya has grown musically and vocally, and her music accommodates a broader audience. With people like Ryan Leslie and Ne-Yo on production, Ms Luckett was in good hands. I expect songs like “Drained”, “Lazy” and “Not Anymore” to be some of 2009's most love R&B songs.

With people like Ryan Leslie and Ne-Yo on production, Ms Luckett was in good hands. I expect songs like “Drained”, “Lazy” and “Not Anymore” to be some of 2009′s most love R&B songs.

Toya can put out "Mary Had a little Lamb" and I will buy it.
She got some chops, besides I loved every song on the album...."Lazy" being one of my favorite. However, I tend to agree with a few others that thought the album as a whole was a bit slow pace. Some songs (lyrically)make you want to get a bottle and start drankin...lol. But her vocal quality is off the chain. Plus she has worked her ass off. She's a queen and deserves a top spot in the music industry.......one day soon I hope.

The title track of this album sounds very reminiscent of an old music box. I really like how the dynamic changes going towards the chorus. She’s clearly telling him nobody’s really better than her and she knows that he wants her. It’s a very cute track. I’m REALLY noticing her harmonies and head voice on this track. Next is “She Ain’t Got…” the second single. As a Pop/R&B fan, I took a liking to this track early. It’s so experimental for Letoya without losing herself. Nobody is trying to keep doing the same stuff and I appreciate the step out of the box. The beat almost makes me forget how sassy and semi-violent the song is. *swings bat* The beat reminds me of some rock with some opera thrown in at the end. Track 3 is “Not Anymore” is the unfortunate first single. I didn’t like this song first listen which is REALLY awful for a first single. After a few listens, I warmed up to the track after I dismissed the idea of it being a serious first single. It IS a very decent track. The chorus coupled with the dedication makes it relatable to any situation.

Wow at Letoya’s arrangement on “Lazy”. Did she do these harmonies alone? If so, great job. I’ve never been impressed by Letoya’s belts in the past but she is clearly giving everything on this track. The belting and chest voice are on point. The adlibs were very great. The heart personification was very clever writing on her part. The no more’s is stressing me the fuck out.

“Good To Me” holds another dedication to “all the good men”. This track is giving me MAJOR “The Beautiful Ones” teas with the piano. This track is decent. Her growth is evident at this point. I’m relieved she’s not overly DRENCHED in autotune like the debut. Over is great. She lets him KNOW how it is and how it would be if he steps wrong. “Regret” has to my favorite track from this era. I find myself singing it when I get bored. Tank clearly produced this as the instrument is reminiscent of Kelly’s “Ghetto“. Unlike Trene, Nicole actually has a connection to this song and it tells a clear story. I could not and still can not stand “Ghetto”. Ludacris’ rap serves no purpose to me. It’s good but Letoya did enough for me. I like the live performances she’s been giving. The twinz still needs to go.

“I Need a U” is very sexy. This is the most risqué track I’ve heard so far. Her vocals have a sexy breathy quality. I love the chorus. The spoken part is very sexy LOL. I can see many of her male fans and Irish getting off on that part. Sex songs ALWAYS need a guitar. “I Need a U,” “Red Light Special,l” and, “Speechless” all have that guitar. She sounds GREAT on “Take Away Love”. This hype man (Estelle) needs to STFU. The hook is nice but -_- @ this rap. The chorus of “After Party” is giving me a headache. This song reminds me of a MJB track. Drained is giving me some Brandy song…“Right Here (Departed)” or “Long Distance”… teas for some reason ESPECIALLY on the chorus. I mean this in a good way (mostly).

“Tears” was a decent slow cut. I didn‘t realize it was over. Matter is great. She has so much going on in her arrangement; so many layers. A+. “Love Rollercoaster“, I LOVE HER PART. I stay singing “rollacoasta”. This country ass girl. I don’t care for rappers but he did well too. I really like “Don’t Need You” is slow enough to fit in but the lyrics are a good last impression. I find myself singing “don’t need jew” as well as “you must regret the day that you left me”. If LeToya arranged the track listing she needs to HUG HER NECK.

Overall, this is a good body of work and it flows so well IMO. I don’t hear anything that would cross over but I hear a couple of R&B singles. Her vocals have improved so MUCH. I don’t have to take off my headphones halfway through her live performances now. Great album, major upgrade, and superb growth! I can’t wait for her third one. Too bad I hate her fans or I would go to LO and tell them how much I enjoyed the album. I said I was going to put this CD in my Beyoncé/Other collection but it has become my driving music.

This review is so late because I have to listen to an album a few times to be able to form an opinion. Irish had to rape me for a review

Here is my review....I posted it on my blog.

its quite legnghty....

LeToya Luckett is a lady of many different sides and personalities. As a member of the group Destiny's Child she played the role "goofy" member. LeToya displays her many different sides in her music. Her debut album "LeToya" came out in 2006. The album was great, and it gave an idea of what a "H-Town chick" really was. The album consisted of many different topics from love to partying, to heartbreak. But This album only showcased the young H-Town chick. which is only one side of LeToya. Now Ms. Luckett is back with her sophmore album appropiately titled "Lady Love". The album consists of many different songs showcasing the many sides of not only a young woman but love general, it shows the good and bad and how it can affect someone. In my review I'll break down the album song by song and give my opinion on each one and the album as a whole.

1. Lady Love: The album starts of with the soft sound of a music box, but quickly switches gears to an infectious beat and LeToya singing in a sexy and sultry voice. This song is a ladies anthem. Letoya lets a man know that no other woman around can do for him all that she can. She lets him know she's a independent lady but can accomidate all of his needs. 4/5

2. She Ain't Got...: This Cory Bold produced track is definitely a stand out track. I mean, who can't relate to this??? LeToya's voice flows over the rapid beat and the lyrics are VERY sassy! She let's a cheating boyfriend know that the "hoe" that he is cheating ain't got sh*t on her! 5/5

3. Not Anymore: This Ne-Yo written song is where the album shifts to a slower pace. The song is a piano driven ballad. The song is about a broken-hearted girl who finally opens her eyes and realizes that she deserves way more that what her so called boyfriend is giving her. Although I like this song I don't feel it was a good single choice, being that is was her 1st single off of the album. 3/5

4. Lazy: I'll be honest, when I first heard this song when it leaked I thought to myself "blaaaaaaah[!]" I thought the song was boring, but I wasnt really listening to the lyrics. This song is off the hook! LeToya sits her man down and lets him know that she no longer wants to be in a relationship, because she is afraid of the heartbreak that may come. She has been so much in the past that her heart has given up on love all together and has become "lazy".

5. Good To Me: This is my favorite song on the album, When I heard this song I couldn't believe this was the same LeToya from the debut album. LeToya lists all the things she wants in a man, and lets it be known when she finds this man she will love him unconditionally. 5/5

6. Over: On this song LeToya warns her man that if he were to ever cheat on her that the relationship would be "over". Things in the relationship don't seem to be going too smoothly from the lyrics, but she warns him before he makes a big mistake and loses everything they have. 4/5

7.Regret(Ft. Ludacris) I guess the guy didn't take Toya's advice! This song is a anthem for anyone who has ever been cheated on. LeToya lets the cheating man know "I made you cool. You wasn't that dude, until I started f*****g with you!" She basically tells him that everything he had, he got from her, and that he is now nothing without her. Ludacris comes in as the "new" boyfriend and basically lets the old guy know he is gonna do all that the other man was incapable of doing. 5/5

8. I Need A U: Lady Love unleashes her sexy side on this track! She sings over a soft bass beat in a airy yet sultry tone very reminiscent of Janet Jackson. She cries that whenever she is alone in her room at nite she needs a man to keep her keep her company and do all the things that lovers do. This song showcases a side of LeToya that has not been showcased atleast not to this extent. Instead of a usual bridge LeToya speaks about how wished she had a man with her at that very moment. The song then climaxes with a electric guitar that goes into the final chorus. 5/5

9. Take Away Love(Ft. Estelle) LeToya gets help from UK singer/Rapper Estelle on a song where she tells a man that she no longer wants to be in a relationship. You can say this song is basically the same like Lazy because generally speaking it is. However if you listen closer they are completely different, This song is about a guy who just cant get a clue. She has tried over & over to let him know he is not who or where she wants to be, so her final option is to take her love away. Estelle's verse is dope! 3/5

10. After Party: This song is probably the only song on the album that I dont particularly care for. It's just not my style. Its almost like everything she says goes in one ear and out the other because I can't begin to tell you what the song is about..... 2/5

11.Drained: This is my JAM! LeToya turns the tables which is something I love when female singers do. Instead of singing about getting her own heart broken she sings about breaking her mans heart and draining him of all of his love. She later pleads for forgiveness and another chance. 4/5

12. Tears: LeToya gets sexy once again! This song is pretty dope. Its about a lady who allows her man to take complete control, but not in a bad way. It is up to the listener to choose whether it is a sexual or emotional type of control. Whatever the case may be the tears she has are tears of joy. 4/5

13.Matter: On this song Toya pleads with a man who has left her for another woman. She tells him that The woman he is now with will never be able to love him the way she does. She pleads with him to come back to her and lets him know the other woman doesn't matter to her. 5/5

14.Love Rollercoaster(Mims & LeToya): I like this song A LOT! This song is SO relatable! Mims Obviously plays the guy in the relationship and spits verses about how the the girl cant seem to keep a stable mood, and how his girl be trippin on him making mountains out of molehill. While LeToya swears that its all on him and that he has changed his ways from what they used to be, which causes her to feel like she is on a emotional rollercoaster. 5/5

15. Don't Need U: This is a great song! Its about finally realizing that you can do without your ex. After all, there IS a reason why you left them, right? On This song LeToya lets her ex know that there are no hard feelings. And she will continue to carry on with her life, rather that soak in her hearkbreak. 4/5

16. Don't Let Me Get Away(iTunes Bonus Track): This drum driven and clap assisted track is nice. LeToya sings over the beat to a guy who is beginning to drop the ball when it comes to their relationship. She reminds how he had to put in work to win her over, and warns him to not let her get away. Although the song is nice I definitely see why it didnt make the physical copy...3/5

As a whole I think this album is AMAZING! It is a total upgrade from her debut. Not to take away from "LeToya", because that album was great too. This album diplays A LOT of growth! LeToya has grown so much as a person & artist. On her debut she placed herself in a box with the whole "H-Town Chick" vibe she was using. This album is a bit more sophisticated. And shows more sides of LeToya. Although She definitely Shows The H-Town Chick is STILL there(i.e. She Ain't Got & Regret just to name a few). Another factor is the vocal growth! LeToya has most definitely stepped it up this time around vocally! She is hitting notes she would have never dared to hit on her first album. This album is worth every penny! if you are an R&B head like myself you will definitely appreciate this album. For the most part it is pretty laid back. there are a few "up beat" songs but the album mainly consists of mid-tempo's and ballads. If you havent already PLEASE go out and BUY this album it is definitely worth it. LeToya is so much more than just an ex member of Destiny's Child. And she is More than just a H-Town Chick. LeToya Nicole Luckett is Lady Love!

You wasn’t that dude, until I started f*****g with you!” She basically tells him that everything he had, he got from her, and that he is now nothing without her. Ludacris comes in as the “new” boyfriend and basically lets the old guy know he is gonna do all that the other man was incapable of doing. 5/5

Estelle’s verse is dope! 3/5

10. After Party: This song is probably the only song on the album that I dont particularly care for. It’s just not my style. Its almost like everything she says goes in one ear and out the other because I can’t begin to tell you what the song is about…..

She pleads with him to come back to her and lets him know the other woman doesn’t matter to her.

15. Don’t Need U: This is a great song! Its about finally realizing that you can do without your ex. After all, there IS a reason why you left them, right? On This song LeToya lets her ex know that there are no hard feelings. And she will continue to carry on with her life, rather that soak in her hearkbreak. 4/5

16. Don’t Let Me Get Away(iTunes Bonus Track): This drum driven and clap assisted track is nice. LeToya sings over the beat to a guy who is beginning to drop the ball when it comes to their relationship. She reminds how he had to put in work to win her over, and warns him to not let her get away. Although the song is nice I definitely see why it didnt make the physical copy…3/5

As a whole I think this album is AMAZING! It is a total upgrade from her debut. Not to take away from “LeToya”, because that album was great too. This album diplays A LOT of growth! LeToya has grown so much as a person & artist. On her debut she placed herself in a box with the whole “H-Town Chick” vibe she was using. This album is a bit more sophisticated. And shows more sides of LeToya. Although She definitely Shows The H-Town Chick is STILL there(i.e. She Ain’t Got & Regret just to name a few). Another factor is the vocal growth! LeToya has most definitely stepped it up this time around vocally! She is hitting notes she would have never dared to hit on her first album. This album is worth every penny! if you are an R&B head like myself you will definitely appreciate this album. For the most part it is pretty laid back. there are a few “up beat” songs but the album mainly consists of mid-tempo’s and ballads. If you havent already PLEASE go out and BUY this album it is definitely worth it. LeToya is so much more than just an ex member of Destiny’s Child. And she is More than just a H-Town Chick. LeToya Nicole Luckett is Lady Love!

I agree with Roc now. You don't hear people saying "Beyonce, former member of Destiny's Child" And yes I brought up her name dammit! She needs no introduction and Toya does not need that shit either. Toya is a queen. There is room for more than one queen. Queen L or "Elle" in the house.

LeTOYA: Lady Love: LeToya wants you to forget about that previous tag attached to her name: LeToya, formerly a member of Destiny’s Child. I don’t think she has to worry. First, it has been so long since she was a member of that super group, who remembers anyway? Second, her sophomore release speaks for itself. Mid-tempo “Regret,” featuring Ludacris, makes you stop, listen and hit replay due to its smooth beat and anthem lyrics. The melody and hook in the ballad “Tears” will haunt your brain all day, and “Take Away Love” featuring Estelle is an infectious number as well. This is a 15-song opus with some hits and misses, but there is more than enough to make you remember LeToya. Just LeToya. — Sheila Rayam
